How can I help?

The impact of COVID-19

No, it’s not your imagination.

Since early 2020, we have all been participants in a worldwide experience of trauma due to the COVID-19/SARS-CoV-19 pandemic. Many folks have told me about increased episodes of health-related anxiety, and I have definitely seen higher rates of depression, which may be caused by social isolation. Adolescents are also having stronger than normal anxiety and depression due to isolation and online learning. Even couples are being negativly effected, in some cases simply because they have been with each other twenty-four seven.

This extended period of threat and helplessness will, in some cases, result in symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), sometimes being referred to as “post-pandemic stress disorder.” Recent research confirms that there has been, and will continue to be, a negative psychological impact from the pandemic.

As an answer to the pandemic, I began offering telehealth psychotherapy. (Research indicates that remote psychotherapy can be at least as effective as in-person therapy if there are no severe disorders present.)

I can now offer telehealtth or in-person psychotherapy at my comfortable and calming office suite in San Marino.

What I do…

“Asking for help is not giving up… It’s refusing to give up.” — Charlie Mackesy

Everyone finds that they need help at some points in their lives. It could be in times of crisis, overwhelm, anxiety, depression, or confusion. Or it could be at the moment of reaching a decision point and needing help in choosing the next direction in life. There are many reasons we may need assistance from time to time, and the core value that I bring to my work is “how can I help?”

If we work together, you will find a collaborative and interactive experience. My style is not to simply reflect back what a client says. Instead, I help each person deepen into their experiences by asking the right questions at the right times. By the end of the first session, you will have tools and strategies that you can take with you into your daily life that will make difference. Each session thereafter will add to this collection of tools and strategies.

Arrange a consultation

If you would like to have a phone consultation at no charge (approximately 15 - 20 minutes), please contact me via email at roger@rogernolan.com or by phone at 626-371-0048. The phone consultation is an opportunity for us to get to know each other a bit, and to better ensure that we will be a good therapeutic fit. If we determine that it’s a good idea, we can then book an appointment.

Fees

My standard fee for a 50-minute session of individual therapy is $170.

My standard fee for an 80-minute couples session is $225.

I accept Venmo at no extra charge, and all major credit/debit cards. A $5.00 processing fee will be added to all credit/debit card transactions.

If there is need, but an inability to pay my standard fee, sliding scale appointments may be available.

Cancellation Policy. Sessions that are cancelled with less than 24-hours notice may be subject to a cancellation fee. Usually the cancellation fee is equal to the fee charged for the session. However, if emergencies arise such as illness or family emergencies, the cancellation fee will be waived.

I am an out-of-network insurance provider. However, many of my clients with insurance are able to receive a reimbursement for a percentage of my fee. Check with your insurance plan for more information. I am happy to present you with a receipt for therapy services that you can present to your insurance carrier.

At this time, LMFTs are unable to accept Medicare. If you need a medicare provider, contact a LIcensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) or Licensed Clinical Psychologist.

My usual office hours are 10:00 am to 6:00 pm Pacific Time, Monday through Friday.
